HKCF advises KNRN as Debt Advisor on €120 million Project Financing
HKCF has successfully advised Kommunale Nährstoffrückgewinnung Niedersachsen GmbH (KNRN) in securing a construction-phase project financing of approximately €120 million. The financing supports the construction of a state-of-the-art mono-incineration facility for sewage sludge in Hildesheim, with an upstream sludge drying unit located in Hameln.
Backed by 21 municipal shareholders, the project represents a significant milestone in ensuring sustainable and legally compliant sewage sludge disposal in Lower Saxony. The upstream drying facility in Hameln will help optimize transport logistics and enable a highly efficient configuration of the incineration plant. Moreover, by connecting the facility to Hildesheim’s district heating network, the project will contribute to the regional energy transition: surplus thermal energy generated during the incineration process will be fed into the heating grid for efficient use.
HKCF provided KNRN with comprehensive support in structuring the complex financing concept and managing a competitive financing process. The transaction was successfully closed with two debt providers and is characterized by its flexibility, particularly regarding the phased awarding of construction lots over the project timeline.
